Two minor girls, aged around nine years, drowned today while taking bath in a pond in Odisha's Balasore district, a police officer said.
Their bodies were found floating in the pond at Chakulia village in Remuna police station area of the district around noon, he said.
The villagers retrieved the bodies and informed police about the matter, the officer said.
"We are probing the incident and more details would be available in the case only after the investigation procedure is over. Prima facie, it seems that one girl slipped into the deep water and drowned, while the other died trying to rescue her," he said, adding that the bodies have been sent for postmortem.
