Two held, stolen property worth Rs 10 lakh seized

Police today arrested two men on charges of theft and recovered stolen items worth Rs 10 lakh from their possession, an official said.

Mohammad Showkat and Zafar Ali, both residents of Poonch, were arrested in connection with two theft cases in Gangyal area, SP South Sandeep Choudhary told reporters here.

The two men were arrested by a special investigating team which was formed after the thieves struck two houses at Digiana camp and Ambika colony of Gangyal area on March 17 and 18, Choudhary said.

"After registering separate cases, the special investigating team rounded up suspected persons and maintained a sharp vigil to locate the miscreants," he said.

The seized goods included gold and silver jewellery, four LCDs, a digital camera, a wrist watch and an electric transformer besides clothes, cosmetic items and other household items, the officer said.

"Further investigation is going on and some more recoveries are expected," he added.
