In the first case, the accused was intercepted after his arrival from Muscat.
"A detailed personal search of the passenger resulted in recovery of two gold wires total weighing 1.17 kg. The gold wires were coated with silver colour and were concealed beneath the inside metal frame of the check-in baggage," a press release issued by the customs said.
The market value of the seized gold wires works out to be Rs 33.05 lakh, it said, adding the 59-year-old passenger has been arrested.
Another man, who had come from Bahrain, was intercepted by the customs officials and his personal search resulted in recovery of three gold wires weighing 1.16 gms. The gold wires, which have been seized, are assessed to be worth Rs 32.99 lakh.
In both these cases, gold weighing 2.33 kgs, valued at Rs 66.04 lakh, was seized.
The customs officials have also seized about 620 gms of gold worth around Rs 16 lakh. The accused in this case was intercepted after his arrival from Jeddah. He had also concealed the gold in form of silver-coated wires.
