The trouble began when the youths, claiming to be daily passengers, boarded the Teesta-Torsa Express at Khagra station in Murshidabad district last night and tried to take up seats beside women passengers in a coach, who objected.
Thwarted in their bid to get close to women, the youths then went to another compartment, where too women passengers along with male passengers protested against their bid to sit beside women.
On reaching Malda station, the assaulted passengers made a complaint with the GRP there.
Inspector-in-Charge of Malda Town Station GRP Krishnagopal Datta forwarded the complaint to Azimgang GRP in Murshidabd district pleading inability to do anything as the area where the incident took place was not under its jurisdiction.
