Two persons were killed in separate incidents of attacks by tigers in Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts of east Maharashtra, it is learnt today.
In the first incident, Chandku Bhonu Futki (50), a farmer, was attacked by a big cat in Adan village in Yavatmal district when he was returning home, near the Pandharkawda forest range, officials said.
They said the tiger has so far killed nine persons in the last two years.
Futki's remains were found during a search launched by his family members and villagers after he didn't return home.
"We are making hectic efforts to trap the tiger," a Forest official said.
In the second incident, 50-year-old Kamal Nikode was attacked by a big cat near a farm in Dayagondi Gangizora village in Chandrapur district last evening.
A badly mutilated body of the woman was spotted this morning by villagers, a Forest official said.
According to senior Forest officials, the area where Nikode was attacked is known to be a territory of a tigress.
"As many as eleven camera traps have been installed in the area to monitor the movements of the big cat," officials said.
