The victims Budhni Gope and Jyotsna Seth along with a girl, Mamata, were going to the nearby Domuhani river to take bath when a speeding SUV ran over them in the morning, the police said.
Both the women were killed on the spot, while Mamata suffered serious injuries in the incident, the police said adding the enraged local residents, who assembled at the spot soon after the incident, torched the vehicle in protest.
Road traffic on the Marine Drive was disrupted for hours till senior police officers assured the protesters to look into their demand.
The driver of the vehicle, however, managed to escape, the officers added.
