In next two years, state's two districts - Yavatmal and Osmanabad would be free of farmer suicides, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today.
"During my recent visit to Israel, I have sought the help of Shimon Peres Foundation in helping farmers in Maharashtra who are ending their lives in large numbers due to agrarian crisis," Fadnavis said at the 'Women Economic Forum' here.
"While on one hand Maharashtra is looked as the most progressive state in the country, on the other hand it is very unfortunate to have most farmers suicide in several districts of the State," he said.
Fadnavis said his government will collaborate with the Shimon Peres Foundation for resolving humanitarian crisis.
He said initially on the plot basis the project would be taken up in Yavatmal (Vidarbha region) and Osmanabad (Marathwada region) districts which are prone for farmers' suicides.
"With joint ideas and innovation in collaboration of state, Centre, Peres foundation and Israel, we would be in position to combat agrarian crisis in these two districts. In next two years, we would make this two districts suicide free," he added.
Fadnavis said that Peres Foundation would lend their expertise in latest farming techniques from Israel by providing value added facilities on farm produce, using biological pesticides instead of costly chemical ones and drip irrigation.
He said all technologies that Israel is using in agriculture sector would be introduced in these two districts.
