The mishap occured last night when a speeding vehicle knocked down seven persons who were listening to Chhath songs outside a shop, the Town police station in-charge Mukesh Saha said.
Two persons were killed on the spot, while five others sustained injuries, he said, adding the victims were identified as Sanju Devi (30) and Rajendra Singh (45).
The injured -- Champa Devi (55), Chandni Devi (37), Siya Kumari (10), Amod Singh (28) and Randhir Kumar (11) -- have been admitted to the Sadar hospital for treatment.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Saha said.
The Sumo driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded, the police officer said.
