A joint patrolling team of army and police was attacked by heavily-armed militants near Mazbat Reserve Forest in Orang, injuring an army personnel and a policeman.
The security forces have launched a massive combing operation in the area to nab the militants who managed to escape into the thick jungles.
The NDFB(S) in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections in April has stepped up its offensive in northern areas of the state, particularly along the Assam-Bhutan and Assam-Arunachal Pradesh borders.
NDFB(S) spokesman B R Ferenga claimed responsibility for the ambush and warned of more such attacks.
