Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti joined the Army in Srinagar this morning in paying tribute to the two soldiers who hailed from the state.
Later in the day, the mortal remains of Singh and Bhagat were cremated with full military honours in their native hamlets of Burn and Gurhasingha of Jammu district.
Besides their families and friends, thousands of people of the twin hamlets attended their funerals.
When their bodies, draped in the tricolour, were brought to their native places for the last rites, a pall of gloom descended on the localities on the outskirts of Jammu city.
Their mortal remains were flown from Srinagar to here by a special IAF helicopter.
Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, Minister Bali Bhagat laid wreaths on their bodies.
Singh, 32, had joined the Army in 2003 and is survived by wife and twochildren.
