The truck dashed against the overcrowded three-wheeler, carrying 13 school students, killing two on the spot and injuring 11 others near Vadutala, police said.
Angry locals blocked the national highway 60 and set on fire some vehicles. They severely beat up two policemen when they reached the spot to control the situation. The Inspector-in-charge of Shalboni police station Biswajit Saha and a constable were seriously injured. The mob also smashed the police vehicle.
Seven injured sudents and the police officer were admitted to the Medinipur Sadar hospital and four wounded students sent to the SSKM hospital in Kolkata. The condition of three students is stated to be critical, police said.
