Two youths were arrested today from Malda district for allegedly extorting money in the name of the most wanted KLO militant Malkhan Singh.
A first year student of Pakua Degree College Bankim Baidya and another class-X student of Kendpukur High School Rajesh Haldar were arrested for calling a local BJP leader with a demand for money, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Yadav said.
The duo called up the BJP leader and asked for Rs 5 lakh to free the KLO militants lodged in jails, the police said.
"Baidya and Haldar are residents of Kendpukur, Yadav said adding that their links with the separatist Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) are being investigated," he said
Two others, including a secondary examinee, were yesterday arrested in Malda district for making monetary demand to several businessmen in north Bengal.
