Around 12 recently appointed assistant engineers in APGenco and Transco, who were under training at the Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) in Vijayawada went for a pilgrimage to Amaravati on a boat from Ibrahimpatnam in Krishna district on Sunday.
While returning, some of them went to the Sri Venkateswara Swami temple on a hillock at Vaikuntapuram.
Meanwhile, two of them namely Sandeep Samson and Panduranaga Rao who did not wish to visit the temple began swimming in the river and were washed away by the water currents.
The police has begun searching for their bodies. A case has also been registered by the Amaravati police in Guntur district.
