Two persons including a 16-year-old boy were swept away by the strong currents of a rain-swollen river and a rivulet in two separate incidents in Rajasthan's Baran district today, officials said.
The district along with other parts of the Hadouti region have witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall for the last 24 hours leading to overflowing rivers, officials said.
Prabhu Lal Sahariya (45), a resident of Barodiya village under Kishanganj police station slipped and fell into the Bagdi river at around 12.30 pm today while returning home, police official Balvir Singh said.
The rescue operation was immediately launched by local police personnel and villagers but he has not been traced so far, he added.
In another incident, Bholaram Bairwa alias Sandeep (16), a resident of Godyapura village under Baran city police station jumped into a rivulet for the sake of adventure but was swept away by the strong current, police said.
The boy and his friends were daily-wagers and had gone to the city early morning to find work. The incident happened when they were returning home at around 11.30 am.
One of the boys jumped into the overflowing rivulet and Bholaram followed him. The other boy managed to swim to the shore but Bholaram was swept away, sub inspector at Baran city police station Sitaram said.
The rescue operation was initiated by the authorities immediately and efforts are underway to find the boy, he added.
