Two women run over by truck in Kanpur

Two women riding a scooty died on the spot when they were run over by a truck today in Maharajpur near here, following which the locals staged a protest, police said.
The cousins, Sita Devi (38) and Kavita (35), were riding a scooty when a speeding truck hit them from behind and the duo fell on the road, a police spokesperson said.
The truck driver tried to flee, during which the two women came under the wheels of the vehicle killing them on the spot, they said, adding that the driver managed to escape.
Enraged locals tired to block the road in protest, but police officials who reached the spot desisted them from doing so, the spokesperson said.

The family of the deceased has been informed and the bodies have been sent for post mortem, police said, adding that investigation is underway.
