Two youth held for forcing pregnant teenager to commit suicide

The Thane police arrested two youth both aged around 20 on Wednesday, allegedly for forcing a 16-year-old girl to end her life under utter duress, the police said here today.
The police registered an offence based on a complaint by the girl's parents, against unknown persons and arrested Dombivili residents Vilas Ramesh Rathod (22) and Laxman Ashok Chavan (20) last evening, the police said.
They have been charged under Section 376 and Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, besides Section 3, Section 4 and Section 7 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012, the police said.

Assistant police inspector M B Awhad of the Narpoli police station in Bhiwandi told PTI today that the victim who was a resident of Dombivli ended her life by consuming poison on January 6 this year.
According to preliminary information, the girl who was raped by some unknown person some seven months ago was seven months pregnant and disturbed about the fact that she was raped and pregnant.
She wanted to conceal the fact from others and took the extreme step of consuming poison to end her life in Bhiwandi town, the police said.
