Uttarakhand government today sought a report from the Education Department on school buildings damaged in the June calamity and asked officials to make alternative arrangements for students whose schools were destroyed or washed away in the tragedy.
State Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani held a meeting with officials of the department to discuss the issue and asked them to submit a report estimating the extent of damage caused to school buildings in the state within 15 days.
He also asked them to make alternative arrangements for students who lost their schools in the devastation so that their studies don't suffer.
Meanwhile, Sarvashiksha Abhiyan project Director Radhika Jha said a proposal of Rs 24 crore has been prepared for the reconstruction of 173 school buildings completely damaged in the floods.
Another proposal of Rs 12.5 crore has been prepared for 612 school buildings damaged partially in the deluge, she said.
At the behest of the state government, NGO Save Child has pitched makeshift tents in the premises of 15 damaged schools to hold classes for students and ensure that their studies are not hampered, the official said.
