Udaipur Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation wins award

Arvind Singh Mewar of the erstwhile royal family of Udaipur received the award at a ceremony held the UN headquarters here yesterday along with 10 other organisations and individuals who awarded for their contribution in the field of climate change, women's issues and culture.

The award recognises Mewar's leadership and work through the foundation, which is a public charitable trust founded by his father Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar of Udaipur.

MMCF focuses on areas of academia, eco-conservation, philanthropy and heritage conservation.

Previously, Ela Bhat of the Self Employed Women's Association had been conferred with the award.

The Women Together awards recognise personal and institutional achievements, mainly those that constitute a relevant contribution to universal culture and help achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Past receipents include Queen Rania of Jordan, singer Shakira, actor Antonio Banderas and institutions like the Grameen Bank, Aveda and Toyota.

Women Together works with the UN to help the organisation achieve its Millennium Development Goals.

It is part of the Economic and Social Committee of the UN (ECOSOC) that has consultative status.
