A Ugandan woman has been arrested for allegedly pushing three women from her country into prostitution in Khirki Extension area in South Delhi, police said today.
The three Ugandan women had on February 3 approached Delhi government alleging that they were brought to India on promise of good jobs but were instead held hostages by drug mafias and pushed into prostitution, following which their statements were recorded by Deputy Commissioner (South and Southeast) Nila Mohanan and a case was registered with the Malviya Nagar police station on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Nabakula, alias Irene was apprehended yesterday during a raid in Khirki Extension area at the instance of the victims.
Nabakula was said to have been arrested from the same building where Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti had a spat with some senior Delhi Police officers over conducting a midnight raid in the absence of a search warrant.
Nabakula was produced before a Delhi court this morning which sent her to one-day of police custody.
She has been booked under various sections of IPC, including extortion and immoral trafficking. Police have accused her of forcibly taking away the passports of the three Ugandan women to force them into flesh trade.
According to sources, the Ugandan High Commission was closely following the probe in the case. Further investigations closely monitored by senior officials of the Delhi Police are underway to nab the absconding accused who brought them to India.
Meanwhile, the police had registered a case against unknown persons.
