New Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has kicked off a fresh political era by rejecting the government's austerity plans as unneeded and unfair.
He used his first party conference speech today to draw a clear line between his party and the Conservatives led by Prime Minister David Cameron.
Corbyn said his party rejects the government's assertion there is no alternative to more cuts in public services, educational support and the National Health Service.
The left-wing leader shied away from radical points of view and proclaimed his love of Britain and British values.
He flashed occasional wit, poking fun at newspapers that had ridiculed his longshot candidacy in the leadership race.
