Uma welcomes Bihar assembly's passage of bill on partial ban

Union Minister Uma Bharti today welcomed Bihar assembly's passage of a bill providing for partial ban on manufacturing and trading of illicit liquor in the state and urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to "keep up the good work".
"The move to ban liquor is a very good step, keep it up Nitish ji," the Union Water Resources Minister said on micro-blogging site Twitter.
A Bill providing for upto capital punishment to those manufacturing or trading illicit liquor in the event of hooch tragedy was yesterday unanimously passed by Bihar legislature which also adopted a resolution unanimously that its members will not consume liquor.
In the first phase, there will be a complete prohibition in rural areas besides a complete ban on country-made liquor across the state while Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) will be sold in limited areas of the state like municipal corporations and councils.
