Representative of the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Shyam Khadka today said the terrain in Mizoram required making of more terraces in agriculture and horticulture areas to prevent massive soil erosion.
In a meeting with state Chief Secretary Lalmalsawma, Khadka suggested terraces should be emphasised to prevent erosion of the top soil in this hilly state receiving heavy rainfall during the Monsoon.
He said the FAO proposed to experiment the Sloping Agriculture Land Technology (SALT) in Mizoram.
Construction of more link roads to connect potential areas and creation of market linkages would benefit the rural cultivators, he said adding, the FAO was ready to assist the state government in this venture.
