Unidentified robbers tried to loot a bank in East Delhi's Preet Vihar but failed to break through the password-protected locker room.
The incident came to light this morning when the security guard of Punjab National Bank's Preet Vihar branch opened its shutter.
As the robbers could not lay their hands on the deposits, they decamped with a few LED screens and other electronic items from the branch.
"The bank remained closed yesterday due to a strike and it seems that the robbers struck last night. They entered the branch by breaking iron grill of a window, then went to the ground floor and broke open the door of the locker room. They managed to break the iron locks but could not open the main locker as it was password-protected," said a police officer.
As they could not find any cash after much effort, they took away the LED screens which were installed on the first floor of the bank which were used to display token numbers to the customers.
According to police, the bank branch had around ten CCTV cameras but the footage of the cameras could not be of much use to the police as it lacked night vision.
Teams from the Crime Branch and FSL reached the spot and collected circumstantial evidence. "A case has been registered at Preet Vihar police station and further investigations are underway," DCP (East) Ajay Kumar said.
