The mishap occurred amid the ongoing roofing work for the first floor due to collapse of the scaffolding, bringing the roof and then thew entire building crashing down.
Police said the labourers at the site were trapped in the debris.
While 12 of them were injured, a man, identified later as Ravikumar was dead, a senior police official told PTI.
The cause of the collapse is being looked into, he said adding the rubble has been cleared by deploying excavators.
The fire and rescue services and the police personnel pulled out the labourers from the rubble and they were taken to a hospital, he added.
