A 65-year-old deaf and mute under-trial prisoner, believed to be a Pakistani national, died during treatment at a hospital here, officials said today.
He was arrested along the International Border in Akhnoor sector in 2015 and was lodged at the district jail in Amphalla here, they said.
The prisoner fell sick on the night of May 29 and was admitted in Government Medical College hospital, where he died yesterday due to multiple organ failure, the officials said.
The postmortem of the deceased was conducted and the procedure laid down for unclaimed bodies would be followed in this case, they said.
It was believed that the man had crossed into India from Pakistan, but since he was deaf and mute his identity remained unknown, the officials said.
