UNDP lauds J-K govt's initiatives

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today lauded the initiatives of Jammu and Kashmir government for capacity building of youth, women and public representatives at grass roots level and expressed interest to partner in such schemes.
A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) delegation led by Lise Grade, Resident Coordinator in India, called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here and expressed interest in capacity building programmes currently being implemented in the state, a government spokesman said.
"The UNDP expressed desire to partner in successful implementation of programmes like UMEED, strengthening of Panchayati Raj System and development of handicrafts in the state," he said.
While welcoming UNDP's intension, the Chief Minister said he would direct the departments concerned to actively take a view in this regard and move forward accordingly, the spokesman said.
"The Chief Minister apprised the UNDP Resident Coordinator on the Centre and state government's determination to upgrade skills of youth under various programmes and enhance their employability status," he said.
"He also informed her about various initiatives of the state government for development of handicrafts and economic welfare of artisans associated with this sector, including the Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) and other initiatives for entrepreneurship development, the spokesman added.
