Union Minister of State in PMO, V.Narayanasamy, today sought a judicial probe into the modalities adopted by the Puducherry government in appointment of faculty members in the state-owned Indira Gandhi Medical college and Research Institute here.
Addressing reporters here, he said the college was now facing difficulty in getting continued approval by the Medical Council of India on the ground that there was no sufficient infrastructure and other facilities.
Narayanasamy said the appointment of professors and other category staff members was to be probed into "as political favouritism has crept into the posting of staff in the college". He alleged that there was serious "mismanagement of the college and hence a probe is necessary", he said.
Flaying the Rangasamy-led government for hiking the power tariff by 20 per cent, he said the increase "is unjustified and uncalled for". He charged that Puducherry government was purchasing power from central power generating stations at a cheaper price and imposing increased tariff on the consumers was causing hardship.
"Already Puducherry is witnessing closure of several industries and present hike would add insult to injury", he said calling for immediate withdrawal of the hike.
Narayanasamy, Congress candidate for the lone LS seat here, accused the Chief Minister of violating the Model Code of Conduct as he had addressed reporters within the 100 metre radius from the polling booth after casting his vote at a booth on April 24. The PCC had written a detailed letter to the Election Commission seeking action against the Chief Minister, he added.
