UP govt's proposal to set up airport at Jewar received: Govt

The Centre received a proposal from Uttar Pradesh government last month for grant of site clearance for the proposed international airport at Jewar in Greater Noida, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma informed Lok Sabha today.
The Akhilesh Yadav-led Samjawadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh had late last year announced setting up a new international airport in the NCR region at Jewar.
It had also said the construction at the proposed airport will commence as soon as the state government gets all required approvals and clearances from the Centre.
The central government had notified a Greenfield Airport Policy in 2008 to provide guidelines for setting up of new airports in the country.

"Government of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation has received a proposal from government of Uttar Pradesh in April, 2016 for grant of site clearance for proposed Noida International Airport near Jewar, Dist Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh," Sharma said in a written reply.
"As per the Greenfield Airport Policy, the proposal has been sent to Airports Authority of India (AAI), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) for their comments/observations on the site identified for setting up of International Airport near Jewar," he said.
The proposal is being considered by a Steering Committee set up in Greenfield Airport Policy in consultation with AAI, DGCA and MoD, he added.
