UP Guv to police,'Instill sense of security among common man'

In the backdrop of recent murders and a bank heist in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today said the state police need to instill sense of security among the mass as there is "fear" in their minds because of the criminal incidents.
"The first and foremost responsibility of police is to maintain law and order, as all criminal activities whether its is act of terror, murder or dacoity, create a sense of fear in the mind of a common man," Naik said while addressing police officers and personnel after taking salute of ceremonial parade here.
"Police force has to work to instill sense of security among the common man. I request all policemen to take a firm resolve to perform their duty meaningfully," he said.

Hailing from Maharashtra, where the state police has a 'logo, Naik said: "I request the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to create a logo for UP police also as will instill confidence among the people here as well."
The statement came after two masked assailants yesterday shot dead three persons carrying bank money in a busy commercial area here and decamped with Rs 50 lakh after opening fire to scare away shocked onlookers.
Naik, who presented bravery and meritorious medals to police officers and kin of those who laid down their lives in the line of duty, said that the state government stand by the family members of the brave policemen.

Speaking about the tradition and history of Uttar Pradesh police, Naik said: "The society or police force which forgets its history cannot build the future, but I am happy that UP police has remembered its past."
He said that 126 police personnel had laid down their lives on the line of duty in UP in the last one year.
