Uttar Pradesh transport minister Swatantra Dev Singh Sunday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik here and invited him to attend the upcoming Kumbh Mela, an official said.
One of the largest religious gatherings in the world, the Kumbh Mela will be held at Triveni Sangam in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad from January 15 to March 4, 2019.
"Singh, on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government, extended an invitation to the Governor to attend the forthcoming Kumbh Mela," an official spokesman said.
It has been decided that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh on January 9, 2019 to ensure transport facilities to the visitors during the fair, the official said.
Singh also discussed with Malik the various initiatives taken by the Yogi Adityanath government in the state's transport sector to check road accidents, he added.
He also discussed measures taken by the government to ensure 24x7 power supply in the state, the spokesperson added.
