UP panchayat polls: Big haul of illegal liquor seized

Police have seized288 cartons of illegal liquor, apparently meant to be supplied as inducement in the ongoing UP panchayat polls, from a truck bearing forged number plate of army from Shamli district.
The consignment, which was smuggled from neighbouring state Haryana, was seized yesterday evening from Kairana area at the state border, said VP Singh, SHO of the area.
The police, in coordination with the excise department officials, intercepted the truckand seized 288 cartons of illegal liquor, he said, adding that one person was arrested.
