UP Police launch Twitter handle for NRIs

Looking to establish a direct link with NRIs visiting the state, Uttar Pradesh Police today launched a dedicated Twitter handle for quick redress of their complaints.

"We have today launched a specific Twitter handle, @UPPolNRI, for NRIs to provide them (with) quick response," Director General of Police (DGP), OP Singh, told PTI.

Singh added that the decision to launch the new Twitter handle was prompted by a surge in complaints from NRIs on the state police's original twitter account, @Uppolice.

The new handle will work round the clock and digital volunteers will be appointed in different countries, the DGP said.

These coordinators will be responsible for informing the state police headquarters through their official Twitter handles about any kind of help needed by NRIs visiting Uttar Pradesh.

Immediate action will be taken on their inputs, Singh said.

The coordinators will also work to generate awareness among the NRIs about various police helplines, citizen-centric services and help dispel any rumours about the law and order situation.

The new handle garnered 284 followers within hours of joining Twitter.

@Uppolice joined the micro-blogging site in March 2013 and has 4,15,000 followers.
