A delegation of UPSC aspirants today met Rahul Gandhi to thank him for his initiative a day after government yesterday decided to give two additional attempts to appear in IAS exams with consequential age relaxation to all categories of candidates.
"The central government has approved two additional attempts to all categories of candidates with effect from Civil Services Examination 2014, with consequential age relaxation of maximum age for all categories of candidates, if required," the Ministry of Personnel had said in an order on Monday.
The move came close on the heels of an assurance by the Congress vice-president to a delegation of civil service aspirants that steps will be taken to redress their grievances.
As per existing rules, a candidate is permitted a maximum of four attempts. The maximum age limit for such candidates is 30 years.
UPSC aspirants had met Gandhi at his residence on January 30 making demands like a re-look into the the sudden change in the pattern of the examination, which they had said was unfair to those coming from a rural background.
Students, who came to meet Gandhi at the 24 Akbar Road, today thanked Gandhi for taking up their concerns with UPA II government and getting them redressed.
