Dejected over not getting desired marks in twelfth standard exam, a 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence at Nadarmedu in the district today, police said.
Her parents were not at home when the girl took the extreme step.
Police said the girl went to a browsing centre soon after the results were announced today and found she had passed, but secured only 664 marks out of 1200.
Frustrated, she returned home, locked herself inside, doused kerosene over her body and set herself ablaze, they said.
