There is an urgent need to create awareness on safety measures for girls, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said today on the occasion of 'International Day of the Girl Child'
He also urged people to actively engage towards the goal.
The International Day of the Girl Child is a timely reminder to create awareness and mobilise support from all segments of the society for girl safety issue, the deputy chief minister said at an event on safety issues related to the girl child at Central Park in Connaught Place here.
"Ensuring that girls feel safe in the national capital, as indeed across the country, there is an urgent endeavour that every citizen of India must actively engage in," he said.
The girls and their families were introduced to important networks including the law ministry, police, womens commission, legal services, who have a direct bearing on their safety and wellbeing, by NGOs participating in the event.
Marking the day, the South Delhi Muncipal Corporation today launched a 'pink ladies toilet' exclusively for women and girl.
South Delhi mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat launched the toilet at Vikashpuri. A sanitary napkin vending machine and incinerator facility has also been provided at the toilet.
