"You have to find out a way to deal when energy is insufficient and in (era of) climate change. You have to find a practical and pragmatic way to get the solution (in energy sector), and not just an ideal solution," she said in her address to the students of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) on the second and concluding day of her tour to Gujarat.
Touching upon the Indo-US partnership in energy sector during her lecture on 'India's energy future and opportunities for US-India energy partnership', the top US diplomat in India said the US has invested USD 4.3 billion in energy sector in the country over the last five years.
She also posed some questions to students on whether the challenges surrounding the Indo-US energy partnership are political or technical in nature and on India's prospects in energy sector for "Mission 2020".
In their reply, the students stressed on the need of exploring and using unconventional sources of energy like wind and solar in India and for that they felt a need of the US' technical support.
Earlier in the day, Stephens visited Mahatma Gandhi's Sabarmati ashram in Ahmedabad.
"It is a great privilege to visit this (Sabarmati) ashram and reflect on all that Gandhiji did and all we still have to learn from him and about him," Stephens wrote in the visitors' book there.
"I welcome and thank you for all you are doing to help the world know more about Gandhiji's legacy -may we all strive to realise his vision of better world for all," she added.
