"Sanskrit scholars from all over India and eight foreign countries including the US, Japan, Canada, Belgium, Thailand, China, Nepal and Bangladesh will deliberate on methods to revive the glory of the ancient language," Governor Aziz Qureshi told reporters.
He was reviewing preparations for the conference, to be held at Raj Bhawan from September 26 here, in consultation with officials of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University under whose auspices the event is being organised.
"The recommendations that emerge from the conference for the promotion of the ancient language will be sent to the state government and also to the Centre," he said.
Describing the conference as the "brainchild" of the Governor, Vice-chancellor of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University Mahavir Agrawal said without Qureshi's constant encouragement they could not have thought of organising the event on this scale.
Qureshi said when he was made governor of Uttarakhand, he insisted on being sworn-in in Sanskrit but he could not do so as officials could not provide him with a correct translation of the oath of office in that language.
