Following a fall in prices, sales of fruit and vegetables at Mother Dairy's safal outlets have increased by 50 per cent to 450 tonnes per day in a fortnight.
"Almost a fortnight ago, we were selling around 300 tonnes of fruit and vegetables per day which has been now increased to 450 tonnes per day after the company reduced prices of vegetables by 20-75 per cent depending on the vegetable," Mother Dairy's Business Head (Horticulture) Pradipta K Sahoo told PTI.
Sahoo said that prices of potato have come down to Rs 15 a kg now from Rs 20-25 per kg a fortnight ago. Onion is selling at Rs 20 per kg against Rs 25-30 per kg earlier.
Radish is being sold at Rs 5 per kg compared to Rs 25 per kg a fortnight ago, peas are available at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 40-50 per kg earlier. While Kinnow which is now available at Rs 20 per kg, was sold at Rs 30-40 per kg earlier.
"We procure directly from farmers so as supplies have been improved from their side, prices have also come down. This trend is expected to continue till January this year," Sahoo added.
At present, the company has 400 safal outlets in Delhi- NCR and 30 stores in Bangalore. Safal outlets are being operated on the franchise model, where the company provides basic infrastructure.
Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable is a wholly-owned subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The company's business is divided into 4 segments - milk, dairy items, Dhara edible oils and horticulture through Safal brand and outlets.
