Former India captain and ex-chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar has been impressed by the talent and dedication shown by 11-year boy Sahil Yadav, who trains at his academy at the Oval maidan in South Mumbai.
Yadav, who hails from a poor family and travels in the local train daily with his grandmother from Badlapur - 65km from the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus - caught Vengsarkar's attention when he scored a fluent hundred for the academy team at the Azad Maidan recently.
Appreciating his talent and dedication, the former cricketer today handed over a full cricket gear - a fine kit bag, good quality cricket bat, pair of gloves and helmet - to the young boy, said a media release today.
"A message must go to all the kids that good work done is admired by the academy," said Vengsarkar while handing over the cricket gear to Yadav.
