Veteran consumer activist Bindhumadhav Joshi passes away

A pioneer of consumer protection movement in the country who fought against unscrupulous trade practises, Bindhumadhav Joshi died at a city hospital today.
He was 86.
Joshi, started a nation-wide movement to defend the consumers' rights with the setting up of 'Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat' in 1974, creating a widespread network for the cause for which he worked till the end.
He is credited with taking the consumer protection movement to the village level to prevent exploitation of common people.
A magazine 'Grahakhit' too was launched by him to educate consumers about their rights.
A dedicated social activist, Joshi had also participated in the Goa liberation movement.

BJP MP from Pune Anil Shirole hailed Joshi's contribution to the consumer rights movement, saying his commitment to the cause dear to his heart was exceptional.
