After the state government recently acceded to his demand to take Ambala out of Panchkula Commissionerate system, Haryana's Health Minister Anil Vij has now demanded dissolution of the Ambala Municipal Corporation.
The outspoken BJP leader and five-time MLA from Ambala Cantt today wrote a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar demanding the dissolution of Ambala Municipal Corporation.
Vij told reporters here that the previous Congress government had constituted the Ambala Municipal Corporation "illegally" which was "not feasible".
"Moreover, it is not in the interest of the people as residents of Ambala Cantonment have to travel several kms to reach Municipal Corporation office located in Ambala City for their petty grievances," Vij said.
"I have conveyed my sentiments to the Chief Minister regarding the Municipal Corporation and now it is the CM's prerogative to take a final decision in this regard," he added.
Vij called the government's recent decision of taking out Ambala from Panchkula Commissionerate system "a right decision by the Chief Minister".
"Some leaders have been opposing it without any logical grounds for their personal interest," he alleged.
Meanwhile, Mayor of the Ambala Municipal Corporation Ramesh Mal, Senior Deputy Mayor Durga Das Attri and senior Congress counsellor Dilip Chawla Bittu have opposed Vij's demand.
They alleged that the Congress had majority in the MC House, "which is why Vij is seeking the body's dissolution for his political benefits".
"It would be an anti-democratic step which would be opposed at every level," said Mal.
