Haryana Health minister Anil Vij today termed as a "gimmick" the announcement of INLD to dig Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal and said its aim is just to "get photographed".
The Akalis in Punjab and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in Haryana are the two sides of the same coin and they were playing a "fixed match", he said.
"While the INLD is doing drama, it is already decided that who will use the spade, who will hit with a stick, who will apply red colour and who will take the photograph," Vij said taking a swipe.
"We want INLD to keep digging till Haryana gets water. If INLD succeeds in bringing water through the SYL canal, he will himself go to them and garland them," the minister said.
He said, "The INLD's announcement to dig SYL canal as a gimmick."
Vij claimed that it was only because of these opposition parties that Haryana was still deprived of water which was to be brought through the SYL canal.
"When they were in power, they could not make any such effort which could bring water to the state," he said.
Vij claimed it was due to the efforts of the present state government that the Supreme Court gave decision in favour of the state, but the opposition was just trying to find political mileage out of it.
INLD leader Abhay Chautala had announced that party activists will assemble at Ambala on February 23 and march towards Punjab for the purpose of digging the SYL canal after the Apex court verdict favouring Haryana in terms of sharing of river waters.
