Thousands of people from as many as 65 villages in the district have complained of receiving supply of polluted drinking water.
The villagers have alleged that water of Purna river is getting contaminated due to the release of industrial affluents from MIDC area in adjoining Amravati district.
District Collector Arun Shinde has convened a meeting in this regard after the matter was raised by local politicians.
A survey conducted by the Water Supply Department has reportedly substantiated the contention of villagers on polluted water.
Meanwhile, local representatives have warned of organising a stir if the issue is not sorted out soon.
