With women and children facing the brunt of a langur attack in the locality, villagers of Nibra in Howrah district today blocked the NH 6 demanding the primate be tranquilised.
Police sources said the locals blocked the arterial highway for about an hour causing massive traffic snarl.
The road blockade was preceded by injuries caused by the animal to a woman and a child in past two days, the sources said.
Though the forest department sent a cage for trapping the langur it could not be caught.
Forest officials said for tranquilising the animal with dart, villagers would have to send a formal mass petition to the top officials of the department first.
