Seeking adequate compensation and anti-erosion steps for their land, four dozen residents of Bhadaipurwa village resorted to jal satyagraha here to press for their demands.
The villagers stood in the water to raise the issue of Ghaghra river eroding houses, hutments and agricultural lands in Dhaurehra tehsil here since past several days.
They also protested the official compensation policy which they alleged to be discriminatory.
The villagers agreed to call off their day-long agitation after being assured of immediate start of anti-erosion works by the engineers, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dhaurehra, G P Srivastav said.
They were also assured of proper compensation as per norms, the SDM added.
