Violence broke out between members of two communities in Sanganer town here with mobs going on the rampage torching a religious school, vandalising properties and attacking policemen prompting authorities to clamp curfew in the area today.
The trouble started over a trivial issue of parking a motorbike last evening, officials said, adding 20 policemen were injured in the violence.
As tension gripped the area, some miscreants set afire the school at Shikarpur road today. However no one was injured as the fire was doused soon, officials said.
The town saw clashes yesterday after a man parked his bike outside a house despite objections from some youths from a community.
Members from both the communities pelted stones and threw empty liquor bottles stored in a factory. The mob also vandalised some houses.
When the police reached the spot, the mob attacked them in which 20 policemen including the officiating Police Commissioner Biju George and ACP Rajesh Meel were injured.
The agitating mob also torched a cardboard factory and a bike besides damaging several other vehicles last evening.
Ten people were arrested last night in connection with the violence and additional forces have been deployed in the area, additional police commissioner Girrja Meena said.
As tension gripped the area, curfew has been clamped, police control room said.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today held a meeting to review the situation and directed officials to take effective steps to maintain law and order, according to a government spokesperson.
Chief secretary C K Mathew, Add Chief Secretary (Home) Ashok Sampatram, DGP Harish Meena and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
