VIP culture of beacon lights to end in Gujarat too: Rupani

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today welcomed the Union Cabinet's decision to remove red beacons from official vehicles and announced to implement it in Gujarat soon.
"We welcome the decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet today about the removal of red beacon lights from vehicles. This is a very good move to end the VIP culture from our system," Rupani told reporters in Rajkot today.
"We will study the central government's notification in this regard and will implement the same in Gujarat soon," he said.
State Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said a decision to remove the red lights from the vehicles of the Gujarat ministers, senior officials and others would be taken at the earliest.

"Every citizen, including the PM and ministers, are equal in democracy. The state government would certainly follow suit by removing red beacon lights from the vehicles of all those who are using them as per the Supreme Court guidelines at present," Patel said in a statement.
Seeking to end VIP culture, the Union Cabinet today decided that beacon light will be removed from all vehicles, including that of the Prime Minister, from May 1.
