Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today lauded the Army's 'Sadbhavana' mission and said it was a useful tool in building a positive image of security forces.
"It is a good approach to rebuild socio-economic life of people as such educational tours not only help in providing exposure, but also contribute towards acquainting with the cultural diversity of various regions," he said.
The senior Congress leader said such gestures also help in winning over alienated sections of the society, particularly in the conflict zones.
He said the Army's presence and assistance have positive impact on the minds of the local population.
Singh was interacting with a delegation of 22 farmers and nine officers of Rajputana Regiment of Indian Army.
The Army under its recent 'Sadbhavana' project conducted a Capacity Building Tour (CBT) to assist the farmers of remote border villages of Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir in understanding modern techniques of farming and horticulture.
As part of the project, the farmers were taken to the Agriculture University Palampur, Horticulture University Nauni and to an agriculture research institute in Shimla.
The Army's Northern Command had launched 'Operation Sadbhavana' in 1998 to extend a helping hand in rebuilding the socio-economic life of the people.
