Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas today claimed that he and his party workers were attacked allegedly by a group of Congress activists during a "Jhadu Chalao Yatra" in Amethi.
The AAP leader alleged the Congress activists, led by party's pradesh committee member Munna Singh, attacked them at Thishundi village of Amethi's Vadar development block, and threatened to kill them.
Vishwas, who is the AAP candidate from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency currently represented by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, said in a tweet that "Congress goons attacked our yatra... Threatened to kill us." Congress leader "Munna Singh led the attack on us", he added.
When contacted, Singh said there was an altercation between activists of Congress and AAP, but denied attacking them.
According to sources, the problem started after Congress activists objected to AAP workers' slogan, "Abhi to Sheila (former Delhi CM) haari hai, Ab Rahul ki baari hai (Sheila has been defeated, now it's Rahul's turn)", during the 'jhadu yatra'. This led to a verbal duel between the activists of Congress and AAP.
AAP leader Vishwas said they had filed a complaint against Singh with the police.
Amethi Superintendent of Police Hiralal, however, claimed that no such incident had taken place.
