Viswaroopam on DTH a week after theatre release

The movie ran into controversy after Kamal Hassan announced the movie will be released on DTH before theatre release

Vishwaroopam to be released in DTH on February 2, 2013 said the actor-cum-producer of the movie Kamal Haasan. It may be noted, earlier he said that, first the movie will be released in DTH and then in theatres. But after the protest from exhibitors, he changed his stand and said the movie will be released on the same day and today he announced that the movie will be released a week later after it screened in theatres.

In a statement today, Haasan said "keeping the request of my exhibitors in mind i have differed the DTH release date, while the original premiere was on a Thursday and hence inconvenient for most, i am now releasing it on a Saturday at the end of the first week of release. It will be on February 2". It may be noted, the movie is scheduled to release in theatres on January 25, 2013.

The Hindi version is poised for a release on February 1 and all the versions will be premiered on the same day.

"I will be able to announce the names of my DTH partners who will be involved in this endeavor with me soon," said Haasan, who earlier announced that he signed deals with six DTH players Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Airtel Digital TV, Reliance Big TV, Dish TV and Videocon d2h.

He added, the cost of viewing per view through DTH may also come down and also contemplating three time slots of whcih the viewers can choose one viewing.
